| ON MILITARY LIFE | ||
| The 2nd Armored Cavalry is having a reunion
November 7-11, 2007, in Washington DC. at the Sheraton Premiere Hotel
at Tyson's Corners. We hope any CAV people reading my website will get
the word out and plan on attending. Organizers of this reunion are all former 2/2
guys. Tom Molino is Association President and a former Colonel of the
Regiment as well as SCO at 2/2. Bill Bewley is the event organizer. Chris Golden is a former 2/2
guy that's helping with the website. Chris said, "I must admit that your description of our role on the Border (in Shadows)
seems more romantic and exciting than I recall the experience." I
imagine that was because he was actually out in the German rain and
snow guarding that Border. If
you are a former Cav member and would like to sign up and attend,
or if the book just peaked your interest about the Cavalry's role in
the Cold War, all Cav websites, plus the Pritzker Museum and Armor Association can be reached by links on the reunion website at http://www.2dcavalryreunion2007.com/Contacts.html or at http://www.dragoons.org/news-center/2007/01/24/association-reunion/ |

| ON DoDDS (Department of Defense Overseas Schools) | ||
| Much of Shadows on an Iron Curtain also reflects the teachers of the Department of Defense Overseas Schools who leave their homes behind to teach the children of our troops on military bases all over the world. Quite a diverse group, and believe me, teaching overseas is not like teaching in your own back yard. Have a few laughs on us DoDDS people. To join us for our next reunion, go to Stallion76@aol.com | ||
| On the "BRATS" as overseas students of DoDDS schools call themselves-- | ||
| The Berlin Brats will have a reunion in 2009 in AZ in July. For information on their plans go to www.BerlinBrats.org or write Jeri Polansky at BerlinBrats@gmail.com Their website also carries a link to mine, and to my books, since mine deal with the military brat lifestyle as well as the wars and alerts. | ||

| ON FRIENDSHIPS OF A LIFETIME | ||
| Between Duty and Devotion explores families, relationships and friendships through the heartbreaking love story of a military officer. One wonders sometimes where one gets the standards for eternal friendships. In April, we enjoyed a terrific reunion for all my classmates from Bell Gardens High School in California that sort of reminded me of the importance of early influence on friendships. Dining and dancing, but most of all, just being together with friends from that era...what a marvelous bunch of people we all turned out to be, even though with our parents in both the Great Depression and in WWII and our friends in the Korean War, and living in what was referred to jokingly as "Billie Goat Acres" for its being on the wrong side of the river from Bell, no one would ever have accused us of being "privileged kids." But we talked about the fact that we were also pretty innocent in the ways of the world. How different it is now with some kids pulling guns instead of spitballs, and shooting their teachers instead of learning from them. Sad. The younger kids today don't know what kind of life they missed right along with the old malt shop and juke box. |
